Boots and socks.

Before starting the walk, I needed to secure a good pair of boots and some good socks.  The Boots came from Missouri Boot and Shoe, of Neosho, Missouri.  The proprietor, Robert Serio, makes the best reproduction boots available, and they were well worth the cost.  I bought the British imported bootees with hobnails and heel plates, and they were great.  I put almost 400 miles on them, and they came out in great shape.  I cannot recommend Mr. Serio's shoes highly enough. One note of caution, however, that the bootees were not designed for walking on modern pavement, and the kinetic energy of each step was transferred to my feet, making them sore after a long day.
I also needed good cotton knitted socks, and Mickey Black of Salisbury, North Carolina.  His socks were cotton, and they held up very well.  I also highly recommend Mr. Blacks socks for any re-enactor.
Both businesses are on-line and a quick Google search will lead one to their web sites.
