Thoughts on beginning ...
I spent the day following portions of the route. The route from Bridgewater, through Harrisonburg, Luray and Front Royal to Cedarville. The mileages in the itinerary seem to be generally accurate.
This evening, I listened to some David Kincaid, packed the knapsack, and tried on the clothing, and generally checked kit. I have found no major issues, and everything seems ready to go.
Susan has been a true friend and very present help with all of this. Without her getting this far wouldn't have been possible. Getting through the walk will be difficult and demanding on her as well. I appreciate her help and support.
I am anxious, excited, and relieved that the trip is about to start. This has been a dream for quite a long time, and I am quite happy to finally start the walk. It seems surreal.
I plan on meeting Jeff Mellot of the Daily News-Record in Port Republic at 11:00 am, and starting shortly thereafter.
